Johnny Manziel's problems have almost nothing to do with football anymore. According to his own father, the embattled Browns quarterback is facing a life-or-death situation.
Manziel's NFL future has been cast into serious doubt after reports that he hit his ex-girlfriend multiple times in a recent altercation. But the quarterback's substance abuse appears to be at the center of his problems. According to his father, Paul Manziel, the quarterback has refused to enter rehab on two separate occasions in the past week.
As he tells The Dallas Morning News, "I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday."
Paul Manziel also said that he tried to get his son committed to an institution for having suicidal thoughts, but the institution allowed him to walk away.
Meanwhile, his agent announced Friday that he is releasing him as a client.

"Though I will remain a friend and Johnny supporter and he knows I have worked tirelessly to arrange a number of professional options for him to continue to pursue, it has become painfully obvious that his future rests solely in his own hands," said his agent, Erik Burkhardt, in a statement. "His family and I have gone to great lengths to outline the steps we feel he must take to get his life in order.
"Accountability is the foundation of any relationship, and without it, the function of my work is counterproductive."
The Browns are expected to release Manziel in March.
