In a marketing ploy that would have made famed baseball promoter Bill Veeck proud, a 16-year-old high school basketball player has turned to business cards to help him get a scholarship offer.
Zeke Horton, a 6-3, 165-pound junior guard from Fort Worth, Texas, or someone who really likes him, had business cards made up and left on coaches' cars outside a tournament in Las Vegas.
The LA Times reports Horton's calling cards, complete with his YouTube handle for highlights (see below), were left on windows of random cars outside Fab 48 tournament host school Las Vegas Bishop Gorman High on Sunday night.
With plenty of college basketball media on hand as well, the brainy baller with a 3.5 GPA received lots of love from the sports blogs. We will have to see if that praise eventually turns into a college basketball career.
Horton's shrewd move could turn into a $120,000 payoff. That's what the USA Today claims the average scholarship is worth.
