John Madden was born May 4, 1973.

After helping Michigan win the 1996 NCAA hockey championship, Madden signed with the New Jersey Devils as an undrafted free agent. In 13 NHL seasons, Madden won the Stanley Cup twice with the Devils and once with the Blackhawks.

He won the Selke Trophy in 2001 as the league's best defensive forward and finished runner-up in the voting on three other occasions.

A terrific penalty-killer, Madden scored 18 regular-season shorthanded goals in his career. In 2006, Madden registered a hat trick in a playoff game against the Rangers with two of the goals coming shorthanded.
