LaPhonso Darnell Ellis was born May 5, 1970.

After four seasons at Notre Dame, Ellis went to the Denver Nuggets as the fifth overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft.

In 11 seasons with the Nuggets, Heat, Timberwolves and Hawks, the 6-foot-8 Ellis averaged 11.9 points and 6.5 rebounds. His best individual season was 1996-97 in Denver when he averaged 21.9 points and 7.0 rebounds.

Ellis joined ESPN as college basketball commentator in 2009.
