You may or may not know Durant's presence in the city is in flux. The 27-year-old former MVP is a free agent for the first time in his career.
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin is making her pitch to Durant.
"If Kevin Durant thinks about leaving, which I hope he doesn’t -- Oklahoma loves Kevin Durant and Kevin Durant loves Oklahoma," Fallin said, speaking in Oklahoma City Saturday. "But if he’ll stay, I’ll make him a Cabinet person for health and fitness on my Cabinet."
Fallin's proposal sparked applause. She brought the room back to earth, saying a cabinet position "might not be as attractive as a couple of million dollars."
It's unclear whether Durant will sign a long-term deal with OKC, leave town for a fresh start, or sign a shorter deal that lets him maximize his long-term earnings potential while retaining flexibility. But a state cabinet position can't hurt the Thunder's pitch as a cherry on top. Kevin Durant could become the Manny Pacquiao of basketball.
