Kid trainer Demarjay Smith has confidence. Almost too much confidence. When Ellen DeGeneres asks him if he can beat Usain Bolt, the fastest man of all-time, in a race, Smith answers, "100 percent."
The 8-year-old Jamaican trainer earned a spot on Ellen after his training video went viral. Smith's story is a heart-warming tale of a young boy who wants to help his neighbors stop getting bullied. He beefs up his local brethren to feel fit and confident.
DeGeneres makes sure Smith puts his workout skills where his mouth is against Bolt.
Bolt and Smith immediately engage in push-ups, and DeGeneres jumps in. The two Jamaican superstars line up on a makeshift track, and Smith actually taunts Bolt. At the start line, Bolt is all business, pointing out that the blocks are actually set up backwards.
During the race, Bolt lets Smith take a lead, but with Bolt's approximately 10-foot strides, he pulls even quickly. Bolt holds his hamstring near the end, claiming cramps, and the whole nation of Jamaica holds its breath. When Smith wins the race, it is obvious Bolt is teasing, but he probably freaked a lot of people out.
Smith gets a nice basket of Jamaican goodies at the end of the event.
